1. Brick Edging

Whether you have flower beds, an herb garden, or trees in your backyard, you probably know the frustration of trying to mow as close as possible without damaging your plants. The problem is that you either get too close and damage your plants, or you can’t get close enough and are left with uneven grass. We have the solution! Create a distinct boundary between your lawn and your garden with concrete brick edging. Using concrete pavers, a mallet, and a few other tools, you can build the perfect barrier that will protect your plants whenever you mow your lawn.

2. Glow in the Dark Ring Toss

Backyards are a great place for kids of all ages to play, use their imaginations, and expend lots of energy. If you’re looking for a fun activity to engage your kids, then try making your own glow-in-the-dark ring toss! You can use a T-ball stand, a dowel, or a stick for the target. Purchase some glow ring necklaces, and then let your kids enjoy the last few days of warm weather with their glow-in-the-dark ring toss

3. Skateboard Swing

Another great backyard hack for kids is a skateboard swing. There’s no reason to purchase a new skateboard since you’ll be taking it apart, so be sure to check your local thrift stores for skateboards. When you purchase the rope, remember to check the weight limit to ensure the safety of all the kids who will enjoy the swing. Once your skateboard swing is assembled, sit back and watch your kids enjoy hours of fun!

4. DIY Fire Pit

There is a wide variety of fire pits available for purchase in almost every store. If you like building things on your own, however, then be sure to try this DIY fire pit plan. Map out the section of your yard where you’d like to place the fire pit, and be sure to check that the ground is level. If you are building on a slope, there are a few extra steps that you’ll need to take to ensure that your firepit is level. When you’re done, be sure to have plenty of s’mores ingredients on hand!

5. Pool Towel Door

If you’re like a lot of families, then you enjoy going to the pool or the lake as often as you can during the summer. At the end of a full day of fun, you’re probably stuck with a number of sopping wet towels and swimsuits. Instead of trying to drape them over every available chair or table, follow these instructions for a functional and pretty pool towel door. By repurposing an old door, you can create separate spaces for drying both pool towels and swimsuits, which should make the laundry a little bit easier to manage.

6. DIY Outdoor Lamp

If you’re like us and you enjoy spending time outside, you may have wondered how to make your back porch or patio feel more homey. With this outdoor lamp tutorial, you can bring the indoors outside! Simply repurpose a solar landscaping lamp to fit in a lamp base, add a lampshade, and voila! You have created your own cozy outdoor lamp.

7. DIY Walkway Pavers

If you’d like to create some unique and eye-catching paths in your backyard, then be sure to follow these directions for building a patio or a pathway with a concrete mold. This particular backyard hack is a little more time-intensive, but we’re sure that you will be pleased with the results when you’re done!
